RedGorilla Music Fest Artist of the Day: "Ginger Root"

Artist Name: Ginger Root

Hometown: Huntington Beach, CA

What's your biggest struggle as an independent artist?

I think one of the biggest struggles would be sounding like yourself. I find it easy to become overwhelmed with how saturated scenes can be. You just gotta own your sound and stand behind it!

Why RedGorilla? what do you hope to accomplish during your time in Austin?

I like RedGorilla because it gives artists of all different caliber a chance to play for a crowd they normally wouldn’t play for. We hope to meet bands and artists of similar mindsets about music and also to play a bananas show in Austin for the first time!

How did you hear about the festival?

My good friend Jimmy Hua of Big Monsta, a RedGorilla veteran, suggested we apply!

Favorite venue to play in the country?

The Wayfarer in Costa Mesa, CA

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

We draw from a wide conglomerate of sources. But essentially it comes together as some would call, Aggressive Elevator Soul.

What are some artists you look up to?

Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Toro Y Moi, Jay Som, Vulfpeck, White Denim, Feist.
